Up when Dawson left really early this am but since it was still dark out I went back to bed to be awaken by a phone call from him about an hour later. He sounded worried and anxious and told me he thinks he might have broken his ankle. Oh….boy….here we go again. He was at a Starbuck’s waiting for his client to show up. I told him to ask for a bag of ice and try to ice and elevate it.
Apparently when he left the RV this am in the dark in his suit, with a coffee in one hand and his heavy work bag on the opposite shoulder – he fell and twisted his ankle as he decended the small hill outside the RV walking to the rental car. He said it hurt a bit but then he got in the car and drove for an hour. Since it was the left ankle he didn’t notice much. However, once he reached his destination and went to exit his car – OUCH….he felt pain. So he pulled up his pant leg to take a look at this ankle and wow – it looked like a baseball was in his ankle. He made his way into the Starbuck’s where he will be meeting his client in about ½ hour. He was worried and knew we didn’t need him to be injured. He said he might cancel his afternoon to come back and decide if we should take him in for an xray. He also texted our friend, Rance to get some insight on how to tell if it is broken or just sprained.
I got up and took Summer out on a morning walk – fairly nice and some what cloudy and overcast…some wind today but not suppose to rain until tomorrow. While walking I decided that we would start school and maybe just wait for Dawson to get back to the RV incase we need to have his ankle looked at by a doctor.
Day on the RV waiting for D to get back - schooled from about 9:30 to 1:30. We covered a lot of material and the kids were ok with not going any where until we could see how Dawson was and how the ankle looked.
School started with bible study and yoga – too funny all 4 of us trying to do yoga on the RV. Q’s comment about “hey mom, I can see everything now that my 3rd eye is open” I started laughing so hard in the middle of our yoga practice. Too funny – they make me laugh.
Q fast worker today– he completed most of his work outside on the patio enjoying the fresh air. He stays focused and wants to get it done. It was nice and warm with the sun shining on our patio too. He also worked on his report on the aircraft he chose to learn more about from our trip yesterday to the air and space museum. His is a small racing airplane called the Nemisis.
Franki – her glass is not full again today – she is upset about EVERYTHING as she says. Franki fought me and her school work all day but she finally got it done…albeit with a scowl and frown on her pretty face all day long. She did all her work in the back room and enjoyed closing the door. She was glad daddy was gone so she could use his working space for school and not have to be with us in the front area.
Mena – a little wound up and ornery today but finally got through all her lessons once she had all my attention. She was the last to go outside as she goofed off for so long today. Very silly girl but paying for it now that her siblings are off to the park with the their friends. Q was cute today he helped her a little bit with her math and encouraged her to stay focused and get done. He was really good with her- I might have to pair them up again.
Dawson got home early afternoon and he got out of his suit and we looked at the ankle, wow it is swollen. Funny, his client felt bad for him that she had him follow here home quickly and she gave him some crutches that she used last year when she broke her ankle. That was nice. He stopped and got a big bag of ice, I got it bagged up for his ankle. He got all comfy on the bed in his work chair and we elevated the foot and applied the ice every 20 minutes each hour. He doesn’t want to go to the dr yet. So advil and ice and elevation. We’ll see how he does.
Boys in and out and some xbox 360 all afternoon. Q and Charlie did take the dog out to a couple times. They were good to get up and go each time I asked them to walk Summer. I did it mostly to get them out in the nice weather and off the game, it was good for them. They also played at the playground some with the girls.
Girls picked flowers at the park and then did hair and decorated the braids with flowers. Very pretty and very creative. They are having fun. They spent most of their afternoon at the Karleen’s camper….playing outside and playing games with Kaia’s toys and dolls.
With Dawson all organized and situated with this ankle elevated and on ice pack every hour for 20 minutes and some advil for the pain. I took out to get us all some sandwiches at subway and got everyone fed. Kids played all afternoon and I caught up on checking the school work that I was behind on. The kids are doing well and getting things done and seem to picking up on and understanding all the concepts by getting a high percentage of the work correct. I am very proud – as some days I question what we are doing? And if they are learning anything!
Took the girls to the hot tub around 4- fun times there for all. But it was toasty!!! Then the Karleen’s headed out to Jujitzu until around 8. It was good that Kaia needed to leave - it got everyone out of the hottub.
Back to the RV – cleaned out the refrig/ and the food cabinets – organizing what was left to make another grocery run. I go to the grocery store so much more than at home – as I don’t have the space to get as much and am struggling to figure out best way to organize this super small freezer so I can keep a little bit more in there.
We discussed going to explore IKEA here down the street and push D in a wheelchair – but we decided to wait – or no one seemed interested. So off to the petstore and target for me. I went alone – nice outing. It is still interesting to basically be shopping in a new store each time. Hard to find everything you need sometimes. My outing allowed me to talk on the phone to my mom, and friends Brenda and Amy while I was out. It was great to catch up with things at home. I miss things about home but not ready to go back yet…it is fun to meet new people and explore new places. We will be packing up Friday night and heading out on Saturday to explore North Carolina next. Meeting Dan, Tara, Charlie and Kaia has made DC extra special. It was fun to have a family to hang out with and we hope to meet up with them down the road and eventually explore more of Pennsylvania in the future with them. Would love to show them around KC and Colorado in the future as well! When you head West Karleen’s let us know.
Anyway, back to the RV with my bags of goodies to unload. The kids helped me a little bit to get the stuff in since Dad is basically laying in bed with a bum ankle. Then I started dinner – we had chicken spagetti that turned out pretty amazing. Everyone ate all their dinner which makes me happy. Then there is the clean up and with limited space it gets interesting. So often I am doing most of it myself and sending them back out to play – just to have more room. It was a great evening and Charlie and Kaia were back to play.
They all came down our way and we made a campfire. It was a little windy but it was good. Dawson even came out to join us – his ankle still numb from my ice pack after dinner. Dan and Tara bought him a care package – IPA’s and Cigars! That will help with pain control! Dan that was a really nice jester and Dawson really appreciated it and will be enjoying it for days to come.
We enjoyed our family time again with the Karleen's – smores, story cubes and Alaskan Bush People show on tv. And loads of laughts!!!
Good times here at Cherry Hill in DC.
Cheers!
