I did my second load of laundry since leaving home – thanks to Jenny Belinder last week – I washed clothes at here house – but tonight – I hung out in the laundry room here at the camp group. It was clean and comfortable and I got a great WIFI signal while sitting there. Kind of like a little office space with the warmth from the dryers and the noise of the machines and the fresh scent of dryer sheets. I need to make my laundry room at home a little office, great idea as it already has a counter- I just need a comfy bar stool or to stand up like I did in the RV laundrymat. Quinten even started the washers and we actually did 2 loads – and he sorted the clothes out by colors with me –good to teach em young uh? Then he was done and he said, “see ya mom” and jumped on his bike and road back down to the RV.
A few things I noticed today. Variety - I feel like we are wearing the same clothes in all the photos I have been looking at on my phone…..annoying because I like variety. But when you are in these close quarters it just seems easier to grab what is there in front of you…for the kids that’s the same outfits over and over. I will have to do a better job of rotating the clothes each time I do laundry. We didn’t bring near what they have in closets at home but what we brought is enough to enjoy a little more variety than what the kids have been wearing so far. But hey, I think when I was a kid, I too loved what I loved and wore those items over and over again, too. Today – I appreciate variety and space. We are learning to deal with each other together in this small space. I would say as a teacher, I would give us a B- today. There has been some tension and some inconsiderate actions by all of us….but it has only been 11 days since we left home. So I think an adjustment period before I give us a final grade is fair. Along with the bumps in our road today, we also have had some good times. The kids got the giggles around lunch time and we were all laughing for about 30 minutes straight. They made hats out of chip bags and got laughing so hard they were almost crying. Then I started laughing with them too. It was a good stress reliever - we all needed it.
And to go along with variety – I will add creativity. I am really enjoying Dawson being creative with this office space. He has a low folding chair that he has been using while sitting on the bed. Very funny, I even laughed out loud the first time I walked to the back bedroom and saw him sitting there. He has got a creative style about him but this RV is taking it to new levels. As I was laughing with him – I was also thinking it looked rather comfortable and functional. He seemed happy and said he had a productive day. I also have enjoyed watching his creative side come out with this his daily workouts. Using mostly a jump rope and this week the picnic tables at the campsite to do a variety of body weight lifting like exercises. I will just stick to yoga and actually have enjoyed getting that in the last 2 days. It has helped me relax and find peace with this journey.
Kids wrapped up the day with finalizing their school work. I am proud of them for pushing through lessons. So far most of what they are doing seems to be review. Hoping by doubling up on lessons they will get into some new stuff really soon. They are good students and for the most part do a good job of staying focused. They do tell me “no” a lot but then they get it done….they are just so use to me being mom and not mom the teacher.
Ok – off to watch the boys in blue be ROYAL! Let’s go Royals, Let’s go!!!
As a wrap up, “good win Royals!”. We love Kansas City!
