Today we woke to cooler air temps but more sunshine….yeah and less wind so should make for a good drive day.  Time to get up and eat and get moving on getting the RV and van ready for the road again.  That means we have to put things away more strategically so all the slides can close up.    Dawson decided he needed to get a workout in first so out to jump rope he went.  After the kids ate they joined him outside.  At one point I looked out and he had them all exercising on the basketball court.  They did laps of various exercises up and down the court.  Jumping, bear crawling, lunges  …and more.  They listen to him way more than they listen to me.    As I finished up the dishes and put it all away I had fun watching them all out the windows of the coach.  It was super cute to see my family outside exercising together!  They might be sore later but it was good for them.
I got irritated at one point in the morning when I was asking the kids to help with some of the packing up chores and they were distracted by games on their electronics.  So I finally took the 2 ipads from the kids and proceded to “hide them” in the overhead compartment above the RV front door.  Along with the headphones that were at the time attached to them.

We finally got all packed up, walked Summer one more time around the Double J campground and started the engine up.  The van was ready in tow and we all climbed in to head to Indiana.  We did make a stop about 5 miles down the road to fill up on fuel.  We are still rookies at all this and it was funny because Dawson had to pull through on the pumps 3x before we were able to actually gas up.  Anyway, while he was out filling up the tank, Quiten wanted his earphones that were attached to the ipad.  So at this point we were stopped, so I offered to get them.  The kids did not know where I had put the ipads – I just told them they were in my safe keeping.

I got up and opened the overhead cabinet to have both of them both fall out on my head and precede to hit the ground.  And I knew by the speed they flew out and the noise I heard that it was not going to be good once I picked them up.   We have 2 ipads one is our family Ipad, it is an older model and is getting really slow as it gets older.  The other is one that Dawson has for his work appointments, but he does let the kids play with it as well.  Oh course, you probably can guess, which one got the most damage…….yep, you got it- Dawson’s work one hit the metal trim that outlines our stairs coming into the RV – and it hit right on the side of the ipad where the button and the charger are located.  The kids were silenced by seeing and hearing what had just happened and I know they were glad it was me and not them that had opened the overhead bin.  So as I reach down to pick up what I was sure would be shattered ipads, the voices of all the many flight attendants I have had on my years of business travel and pleasure by plane, started playing in my mind.  Something along the line of….”be careful when opening the overhead compartments, because items could have shifted during flight”!  Yep, you got that southwest airlines…….you aren’t kidding!  While on the bumps of our roads in the country even only going about 5 miles down the road the items on the Fercho Family RV Adventure compartments also shift – A LOT apparently!  As we go we continue to learn and experience lessons. Now as I begin to put things away and “hide” stuff from the children…..I need to remember this “expensive” lesson.

When I picked up the ipad – the first one was ok….it was the family one.  But when I picked up Dawson’s with Q looking over my shoulder to get a view of it too……OH NO…..this is not going to be good.  Dawson is going to be mad!  And rightfully so.   The kids were silent and in awe of what I had just done.

Anyway, the kids were looking at me like “oh no, your so in trouble now.”  They said, “mom, what are you going to do?”  It almost looked like they had tears in their eyes for me.  I said, well, I made a terrible mistake and I need to just go tell Dad now.  So after I put the ipad on the dash and started finding very small glass slivers on my hands…..I told the kids as I was exiting the RV to not touch it.  I went to the back where Dawson was fueling up the RV and I said….”hey, I made a really big mistake….and your going to be really mad (jjust put it out there right)….but I took the ipads this morning from the kids and I stuck them in the overhead bin over the door and well, I just opened the door and they flew out my head, hit the stairs and tumbled to the ground.  Obviously a bad place to hide them….but your work one is shattered.”  He was not happy…..I proceeded to tell him I was sorry for breaking it and if it was fixable I would get it fixed on Monday.  I am hoping it is fixable – and it is just the glass.  It did come on and I was able to get it to open with the password at the sametime I think I got 3 or 4 pieces of glass in my fingers/hand.

Anyway, I returned to the RV and the kids were like – well?  Yep he is mad and he should be.  Now be good and let him deal with it his way.  They scattered to the back to relax and watch movies as we traveled down the road.
I will say, I was pretty impressed with Dawson’s anger meter….he was upset but didn’t hold it over my head too long.  He was really pretty mellow once we started talking as we eased on down the road.  He asked me to look for a fix it place in Indy….I told him I would take care of it.

Indianapolis was about 4 hours for us in the RV.  We were headed to Leonard & Felicia Allen’s home.  They offered up through their daughter/ my dear friend, Amy that we could park the RV at his home.  When you do something like this with this big of a vehicle – there is some anxiety in what we are driving into to say the least.  As we got closer going down Highway 31 with its many stop lights and traffic – Dawson started asking questions or I started texting Leonard.  Finally, I just called him and he gave us more specific instructions about the uturn the GPS was telling Dawson to make.  Anyway, once we got there – it was and is the PERFECT set up for us and the RV.  Leonard has a huge garage that he works on restoring old cars….it has a nice long driveway on the far side away from their home and he has a huge door on this side.  The garage is very nice, super clean, has sitting areas all around for some social gathering and it has a full bathroom with shower and all.  It is nice.   He has electrical hook up and water right here on this side too.  There is a huge yard, a tree swing and pond for fishing  - It is absolutely perfect.

We got parked and all hooked up, slides pushed back out and invited the Allen’s in for a short tour of our home on wheels.  It only takes a minute to tour our home these days but we are proud of it and feeling more at home in it everyday.

We hung out in the garage and the kids all got acquainted with the garage and Leonard and Felicia.  Pretty soon their granddaughter, Addison and her dad, Jeremy stopped by.  Jeremy had a very nice jeep and Dawson was loving it.  We all ended up going to a local spot called, Kacey’s to eat.  They had awesome pizza and fun old fashioned little coca cola bottles – the kids loved ‘em.  We enjoyed all the Allen’s. It was a great time- awesome people and great conversation.  Felicia even knew of a place right down the road to get the ipad fixed….it’s called UBreakIFix…..and yep, I broke it alright.
Back to the homestead we went and called it a day.  Saying good night to the Allen’s and settling in for the night.  Franki wanted to take a shower so we went back into the garage for her to shower while Q and Mena rode Addison’s bike and Y Flicker.  By the way the Y Flickers are super fun to ride – great exercise and fun to watch people ride around on it.  The kids all loved it.  We might have some Y Flickers in our future – but not until we get home ….maybe.
We will stay here through Wednesday as Dawson is going to be calling on clients while we are here.

My first order of business while in Indy is going to be getting the IPAD fixed.  Wonder what that is going to cost me!  OUCH!!!!!

Could be worse – and as we use up food and take things out of the cabinets – I need to arrange items better and maybe keep the cabinets more full…..but if not I will listen to the flight attendants and take A LOT more caution when opening cabinets after we travel down the road.
Rolling on….
