Wow the big day is here! Matt Thomas and Haylie Jo are going to say "I do" to each other today. We have all been very excited for this day for a least a year. The girls and their cousins, all 5 of them, are going to be junior brides maids and Quinten is going to be an usher. What a great looking group of girls we have in the Fercho clan …and Q well he is pretty handsome too.
Haylie and Matt – the sun is out the wind seems mild this am. I am out gathering more leaves for the aisles at the wedding. We have taken great pride in finding leaves that have brilliant color and are from all the places we have been this week in Madison. We enjoyed our leaf collecting for the wedding! Especially Summer - she liked all our nature walks collecting leaves this week!
On this wedding day - I am going to ponder "to love and to cherish". About 6 years ago, Dawson and I met a great lady named Ruth….Dawson’s friend Brad had introduced us and she wanted us to buy her house. She had a beautiful home that just needed some TLC and a family to call it home again. She had amazing memories in her home and wanted a young family to move in to it. We never bought her house but we connected with her on a very deep, personal level and she sat and talked to Dawson and I for over 3 hours. She had just lost the love of her life and she talked to us about “cherishing” each other. This is a word in the wedding ceremony that doesn’t always get a lot of attention. But today, is one of those days, where the clock keeps you on a tight schedule of getting ready to walk down the aisle. And as I drink my starbuck’s this am (thanks uncle brad for getting that for me today)….I am reminding myself to “cherish this day”. To be in the moment, to soak up my family, to be fully present to the girls and the people around me.
The girls get to get their hair done at the salon with the other brides maids and moms. They are very excited to have real updo’s and they like hanging out with the older girls. Sarah and I will be the taxi of the pretty girls and the chaperones for the day….but we are going to CHERISH it all.
I’m also going to remind myself to cherish this RV adventure with Dawson and the kids. It is a dream that we made this happen and as it unfolds and bumps and turns in the road come up unplanned, and as we go out into the world to see old friends and meet new people…..as we live with one another, in a small space, 24 x 7, may I remember to CHERISH the experience. Cherish the interactions. Cherish the adventure. Cherish the sweet kids in my presence, to cherish Dawson and the entire person that he is. May I cherish the good, the bad and the ugly. May I cherish the sunsets and the sunrises. May I cherish nature all around me in all the places I go. And may I cherish home and all that we left behind to make this happen. May I cherish God and the blessed life he has given me. And if I start to complain or wish for something different or miss something from home – please remind me – to CHERISH this trip and this precious time I have been given with my amazing family.
Haylie and Matt….may you two, love and CHERISH each other and all many blessings you have around you today and everyday. You two are an awesome couple. We are excited to be to celebrate this special day with you both.
It was busy day……getting all the girls ready for the wedding. Here is our run-down.
Well, Sarah and I got all the girls nails painted, off to the salon, updo’s done and sprayed well, lunch picked up to eat at the hotel and entertained them with games and coloring and such until it was time to leave for the wedding site. We took out of the hotel at 1:30 and headed back to Lake Kegonsa where the wedding was at the Stoughton Country Club. The wind had begun to pick up a little by the lake but the sun was still out. We got there and joined the other girls in the locker room. Our lovely bride, Haylie was already in her gown and she looked absolutely amazing! Stunning! Beautiful! She was so pretty in her gown and headpeice. She looked like a beautiful doll. The girls were very excited to get their dresses on for the wedding. Sarah and I helped with tights, pulling shirts over their hairdo’s and adding some makeup to their sweet, sweet faces. Lila was also with us as Auntie Kass was the personal attendant. It was a mad rush to get them all dressed as they were so excited for all the fanciness. The gold sparkly shoes, the lace and gold dresses, lipstick that Auntie Haylie bought them all, fancy bracelets, and little black jackets. They all looked amazing! Wow- this Fercho clan sure cleans up well. Especially for us who had spent a week in a state park camp ground. A fun change for the weekend.
The wedding ceremony began and we all went outside to site by the lake….at first the brisk air felt refreshing and not so bad and as Haylie made her way down the grass aisle – well it started getting colder just sitting there. The little girls and the bridesmaids were all troopers. IT WAS COLD….AND SO WINDY…..we were all freezing and feeling sorry for everyone up there in sleeveless dresses, including Haylie. But we were all troopers (especially all the GIRLS) and we were all so excited when Matt kissed his bride and we could all go in and begin to warm up. It was fun to sit by the fireplace by the bar after the ceremony and drink a cocktail and warm up. The girls warmed up and were ready to go again. It was a great dinner and celebration. We laughed, we met new people, we danced, we got in the photo booth and all the things that you do at great weddings. Dawson and I even danced to our first wedding song during the reception. So fun. One of my favorite memories is Papa Ivan dancing with all 5 of his grandgirls! We have a video of it – but I will cherish that moment in my mind for a long time to come. Papa Ivan and Grandma Julie both looked to be having an amazing time. It was a very fun party. It is crazy how darn fast an evening like that can pass. The girls did not want it to end….and neither did I. But all good things like that do come to an end at some point.
What a great day – a great wedding – a great family – a great couple! We love you Haylie and Matt and cheers to your “lifetime” together from here on out. Enjoy your honeymoon in Mexico. We had a great time and were so honored to have the kids play such a big role in your wedding day!!!
Raise your glass to Haylie Jo and Matthew Thomas - as they begin their married life! Here is to cherished adventures you two!
