Apologize for the delay in blog updates! But here we go! We haven't had strong enough wifi to update using the internet. So since our last blog post....we survived snow and below freezing temps in Alabama. Dawson was able to spend a week with his business partners in Huntsville. And we experienced getting a Tiffin Motor home serviced at it's birth place in Red Bay, Alabama! That was an experience that tested our patience as well as our lack of control. But while we were there we had the RV serviced, fixed a recall issue, toured the Tiffin Motor plant where 13 RV's are made each day, kids and I met the owner and president, Bob Tiffin, as well. The kids and I saw the birth place of Helen Keller. We visited a co-worker friend of mine, Rich Joyce and his family in Oxford, Mississippi during the weekend we had to wait for the RV service. Thanks Rich and Renee for taking us in for the weekend! We loved Oxford and the Ol Miss Campus. It was fun to visit Elvis Presley's birth place with you and Colby. We enjoyed watching Grace Ann play a soccer too.
We have been in Texas since Tuesday, Feb 23rd. We have had all types of weather here in Texas - lots of rain, cold, cloudy, windy days and some super warm days in the 80's - oh and severe thunderstorm with tornado sirens going off. Not fun in the RV. Spring is in the air here in Texas though....flowers blooming and leaves starting to come back to the trees. It is my favorite season.
We were in Ft Worth for 2 weeks - seeing our good friends the Irizarry's. Chris, Rebecca, Emma and Nathan let us stay at their house for a week and also crash in for dinners here and there on the 2nd week. We got to see my aunt KBeth, uncle Don and cousin Katelyn - the Vietti's. We went to their new house, a chili cook off and had a great steak dinner at the house. Quinten got to meet Cameron, my college sorority sister, Aimee Smith's son. The boys hit it off as we enjoyed Babe's Chicken in Roanoke with them one Sunday afternoon. We had a great hike at Eagle Mountain with Chris and Emma. And enjoyed dinners at their house and out at Chuy's and Nothing Bundt Cake and at Babe's. The Main Event indoor activity center was a high light for the kids. They bowled, did the high rope and zip line course, played games and enjoyed lazer tag. It was super fun! Thanks Emma & Rebecca for the great idea. We also enjoyed attending the Science Fair at Emma's school and getting to help her with her potatoe clock. Very fun ideas at the science fair!
The second weekend in Ft Worth - the kids and I drove to KC. I had promised Franki (early on in the trip) that when her cousin Tessa Mae turned one in March - if we were anywhere close to home (under 10 hours) that we might go home for her party. Well, Franki didn't forget my promise and really wanted to go home. So we went in for a surprise visit to KC to see family. While it was to focus on family we did see some friends and neighbors and even went by the house. It was surreal to be home....and fun at the same time but we were ready to get back to the RV and Dawson. We had a great time celebrating the miracle of sweet Tessa Mae and her first year! So glad we could be there for the party. We had fun at home but we are not done with our trip and it felt great to reunite with Dawson and the RV on Monday, March 7th. We were back for 2 days in the North Village RV Park in Ft Worth before we headed out.
We then left Ft Worth to head to Austin for some SXSW events. Dawson was able to meet up with his old roommate from Denver, Fred Smith for some SXSW technology events. On Saturday, family friend, Lynn Graft met up with us for a visit on the RV and dinner down the street at Shady Grove an Austin staple place. It was fun to see Lynn and enjoy time with her. She loved the RV.
Lisa and Fred took us out to dinner to on Sunday to "the grove" - it was yummy. Thanks Lisa and Fred for a fun evening. Brenda and Kena Flood were on their Spring Break from KC and came to see us in Austin on their way to San Antonio. They came into Pecan Grove on Sunday, March 13th. We kayaked and canoed in Lady Bird lake in downtown Austin with them. It was a super fun day with friends from home. So fun to have so many RV visitors.
The girls and I drove to San Antonio on Monday to hang out with Brenda and Kena and see San Antonio. We had a fun time swimming at the hotel pool on the roof of the fifth floor - though the water was FREEZING!!!! Then we had dinner on the river-walk and did some shopping. The girls ended up wanting to spend the night with the Flood ladies - so we called Dawson and Q and decided to stay.
Brenda and Kena decided to check out on Tuesday and come back to Austin - we invited them to stay the night with us on the RV. That afternoon - they went back and rented a kayak and we walked the path down to see them on the river. There was a concert cruise on the water that was super fun....and lots of people out and about. It was a hot day - it felt amazing! Later that evening we walked to the Congress street bridge to see the bats emerge.....WOW....that was super
spectacular! One of the coolest things I think I have ever seen. It was as if the bats had a system down of how they exited the bridge and took flight. So glad we got to see that in action. The kids loved it.
Brenda and Kena stayed with us that night and it was a crazy night of noises - I woke up 3x and one time I really thought someone was trying to open a storage door on the RV....Summer even barked. Well, come to find out the next day when I took Summer out for a walk - Q's bike was gone. That is what the noise was at around 3 am.....someone stole the bike. Bummer. Guess they really needed it. That is the first time I have felt like anyone has messed with our RV and stuff. We were in town down Austin and the manager of Pecan Grove said the homeless do take bikes - that is about the only thing they have issues with there. At least we are all safe and a bike can be replaced. So now we are down to 3 bikes - as you might recall -- Mena's petal broke in Ft Myers and Dawson left the bike behind. We might not have any bikes by the time we get home.
The Flood girls left early on Wednesday am to start their journey home. We got up and Dawson worked for a few hours then we got the RV ready to roll on. So, now we are in San Antonio with Dawson's step brother - Geoff and his beautiful family....Amy, Finley, Brody and Keegan. We are really enjoying some cousin time and seeing where they live! We will go see the sites of San Antonio river walk and the Alamo and on Friday night we are going to watch the Royals play the Texas Rangers here in town!
Next week we will move through Lubbock and Amarillo so Dawson can see some clients and then we will roll on to New Mexico and the Grand Canyon......It is hard to believe but we just celebrated 5 months on the road!!!! And we are going to keep on rollin WEST......please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and I will try to update this more regularly moving forward.
We are all doing well and enjoying our family adventure! Happy Spring and happy Easter to everyone.
