So we drove north on i35 to a town just north west of Des Moines called Adel, Iowa. It is the home of John Wayne and the bridges of Madison County. We are in a beautiful KOA here and we pulled in around 5:45 pm. It was nice to be on the road and all be in the RV together as a family. There were some tears, some naps and just some chill out time. But everyone is very excited for this journey to be started. Franki and Mena had a sweet note to read from Rose and it made Franki and I cry. It was very thoughtful and sweet. Franki had big crocodile tears flowing for a good 20 minutes but we sat at the table and had a great discussion about life and experiences and people moving and things changing. It was one of our best conversations ever.
Quinten road up in the passenger seat to co-pilot with his dad as Captain. Dawson did great pulling the van and maneuvering in some really narrow construction zones. We had some snacks, and Franki wrote some letters to her friends and to her class. Mena slept for a long while and then listened to music....Brady thanks for loaning her your old ipod to use, she loves it. We set up shop and ate and dug out our jackets as it got very cool as the sun started to set. We saw an amazing sunset as we were cooking dinner. I didn't get any good photos as I was cooking at the time, but It was a magical sunset. I also had two white doves circle over head and fly around us as we walked Summer that evening.
Ok....I will add a photo or two when I can....but having wifi issues here at the campground so going to sign off for day one. A day for me where dreams do come true - October 10, 2015....let the journey begin!
We had our first RV visitor of the trip- Heather Thorndike, long time friend and coworker from my Sprint day.! Thorndike, thanks for driving out to see us tonight and bringing us milk and cereal oh and a lil pumpkin! Thanks friend. We are so excited for you and Brad and your engagement. Your ring is beautiful. You both deserve the best! Can't wait for your big day ahead....but enjoy the journey along the way my friend....such a special time for you! Ok....I need to get some sleep.... I'm officially exhausted!
Rolling on down the highway....and taking it all in!
